Day Care Centre

Adaptive re-use to create a safe and welcoming childcare environment

A casco fitout of a shell premises to create a nursery to accommodate 21 children. The outcome is a calm, safe and welcoming space for babies and children, parents, and staff.

The layout includes a sleeping area, kitchen/dining space, indoor and outdoor activity areas and an office, with all spaces designed to be open, accessible, and intuitive to navigate.

The Centre's design complies with O.N.E (Office of Birth and Childhood) regulations for childcare facilities, with close attention paid to air quality and ventilation, lighting and acoustics. The nursery features acoustic absorbing solutions on ceilings and walls, heat recovery ventilation, and natural, low-emission materials. The spaces meet PMR accessibility standards, and visibility and security requirements. The rooms are also tailored to meet the needs of different age groups, with floor colours and glazed panels used to zone the spaces.
