Goethe-Institut Library Zagreb

Renovation of a library and ‘third space’ environment adaptable for multiple uses

The Goethe-Institut is the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany, active worldwide in promoting access to the German language and encouraging international cultural exchange. Renovation of their library in Zagreb included interiors, furnishing, and acoustic solutions, achieving both aesthetic and functional value.

All spaces were designed to be open, multifunctional, and accessible, with particular attention paid to natural light and materials. A soft visual identity was created, conducive to reading and concentration.

Modularity is a key feature, enabling flexibility for the spaces to be adapted to various functions, including hosting events and workshops. Existing furniture and lighting were renovated and repurposed, refreshing the space whilst minimizing waste.
