Goethe-Institut Brussels
Corporate interiors renovation project incorporating adaptability and a sustainable approach
The Goethe-Institut is the cultural institute of the Federal Republic of Germany, active worldwide in promoting access to the German language and encouraging international cultural exchange. Their Brussels office is located on Rue Belliard, close to the European Parliament, and features a listed facade. The building also houses the office of the representation of Baden-Württemberg to the European Union.
Designs for the office fit-out were guided by a sustainable approach and New Ways of Working (NWoW) principles, recognizing the impact of spatial design on collaboration, productivity, and employee well-being.
Workshops and meetings with Goethe-Institut staff greatly informed the layout and strategy. Workspaces were tailored for both individual and communal use, and spaces were designed to provide as much access to natural light as possible.
Flexibility was key to the design concept, with the multifunctional hall designed to accommodate a variety of spatial configurations through custom-made, adaptable elements. Modular furniture further supports New Ways of Working (NWoW) and enables the office to host a range of event types. We also worked on move management, a re-use inventory for existing elements and furniture, and the assessment and integration of acoustic solutions tailored to the company’s needs.
